COLUMBIA CITY â Columbia City High School and five other schools welcomed two new compatriots to a new conference that will begin play in two years.
Huntington North and Leo will join Columbia City and five other schools: Bellmont, DeKalb, East Noble, New Haven and Norwell in a new, yet-unnamed conference that will commence competition in the fall of 2015.
Until that time, the six Northeast Hoosier Conference (NHC) schools will play out the final two years of that conference with Carroll and Homestead.
Huntington North and Leo were two of four schools that presented to join the conference. Angola and Fort Wayne Concordia were the other two. Officials said what stood out for the two schools that were accepted was the culture.
âThey offer the same kind of athletic opportunities we do,â said Columbia City High School Principal Jennifer Reiff. âThe community population, support systems, and the programs they offer were a good fit.â
Columbia City High School Athletic Director Geoff Penrod said Angola and Concordia made good presentations as well, the fit just wasnât as strong-suited.
