Railroaders deny ’Busco first victory

   GARRETT — The train stopped Thursday night in Garrett where Churubusco volleyball was in search of its first regular season victory.
   After a tough three-game loss to Leo earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles hit the road for the first time on the season and hoped to topple the Lady Railroaders.
   A slow start to the night kept ’Busco from doing so.
   Despite nearly winning the third game of the match, Churubusco had too much of a hole to climb out of after falling in the first two games 13-25, 12-25.
   Hoping to pick up a game, the Eagles took an early 7-2 lead in the third game after junior Heather Monk finished off a kill.
   Fellow junior Haleigh Gross began the stretch with two strong serves that took ’Busco on 6-1 run.
   The lead built up to as much as eight with Garrett cooling off after a hot start of front line attacking by Jordyn Knott and Megan Getts.
   Churubusco took its lead deep into game three, up 19-13.
   Getting to 20 points was where it became a problem for the Lady Eagles.
   Garrett reeled off seven unanswered points to gain its first lead of the game 20-19. Knott and Jessica LaTurner had back-to-back kills after Allie Murley picked up two service points.
   The game carried into a 22-22 tie before Garrett was able to finish off the comeback 25-22.
   Churubusco’s quest for its first victory under first-year head coach Trinda Goings continues next week.
   The Lady Eagles will travel to southern county rival Whitko to take on the Lady Wildcats who stand at 1-0 for the season.
