RADIO STARS: Station garnishes rave reviews by its students

Editor’s note: The following is the final installment of a two-part series on the radio program at Columbia City High School.
COLUMBIA CITY — Tune the radio dial to WJHS 91.5 and students from Columbia City High School can be heard broadcasting community news, events as well as popular music.
The station, which started in 1985, works as a on-air classroom.
“You learn as you go,” said Hunter Clark, a CCHS junior. “This is a class where you learn on the job, but the experience is invaluable.”
For Clark, the radio station has helped direct his career choice.
“I want to do sports broadcasting after school,” he said.
Clark is heard over the air waves giving a play-by-play of CCHS basketball games. He said each time he sits in front of the microphone is a learning experience and a chance for him to better his skills.
Michelle Creech teaches the radio class. For her, WJHS is a homecoming. She originally took the class and worked the station when she was in high school.
