PROPERTY TAX: Bills out, new payment options available

April 12, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Property tax bills will be in the mail soon.

While citizens will need to make payments for the spring installment by May 10, there are alternative methods to take care of the bill that do not involve a trip to downtown Columbia City.

Whitley County Treasurer Laurell Hodges said e-payments are encouraged.

“It’s quick, easy and free,” she said. “Visit the county government’s website, www.whitleygov.com and click the option to pay taxes online.”

Hodges said there are options to pay the bill one-time only or to make it in 12-month installments. She again emphasized that it cost tax payers no extra money.

The program for online payments has only been in place for a year, but Hodges believes it is ready.

“I think everything is a go and we can proceed,” she said.

Hodges said her office has already received calls from individuals wondering about tax bills. She indicated bills would be mailed from Indianapolis Friday.
