COLUMBIA CITY â A routine probation search has netted yet another methamphetamine lab in Columbia City.
Just a little more than a week after a 911 call for a an unconscious infant led police to a suspected clandestine meth lab, county police entered the home of Kyle Lloyd Barker at 108 E. Hanna Street Tuesday night and discovered a meth manufacturing operation in his downstairs bedroom.
Barker, 24, was arrested at 3:50 p.m. and booked in Whitley County Jail on seven drug-related charges.
According to Det. Bill Brice with the Whitley County Sheriffâs Department, Barker was on probation. Brice said a condition of probation is that searches can be made at the discretion of the Probation Department and that the searchers have carte blanche to look virtually anywhere.
âYou can search any place they (the suspect) have access,â said Brice.
Police arrived at Barkerâs home just before 4 p.m., discovered the lab and immediately took Barker into custody.
Barker is charged with dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of chemicals with the intent to manufacture (meth), possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic needles, and maintaining a common nuisance.
According to the Whitley County Prosecuting Attorneyâs Office, Barker is slated for an initial hearing in Whitley County Circuit Court on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
