Prep volleyball pairings announced

October 15, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS — With 402 teams entered for the second year in a row, initial matchups for the 42nd Annual IHSAA Volleyball State Tournament were announced this morning.

Sectional play begins Tuesday, Oct. 22, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 26, at 64 sites across the four enrollment classifications.

Those sectional champions will advance to a one-match regional on the home court of one of the participating teams Tuesday, Oct. 29, to be followed by a four-team semi-state on Saturday, Nov. 2. The four state championship matches at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9.

The four top-ranked teams in the latest state coaches poll headline this year’s field.

Columbia City, which has been a Class 4A school for several years, will try its luck at Class 3A this season.

Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, they drew one of the top Class 3A schools in the state — Bellmont. The Lady Braves topped Columbia City on Thursday’s senior night in three competitive games.

The Columbia City-Bellmont matchup is slated for Thursday, Oct. 24.

See Page B2 for Columbia City’s six-team sectional, which is held at Heritage.

Churubusco, which is in the Woodlan sectional, is set to face South Adams in the opening round.

Whitko’s sectional is held at West Noble this year, and the Lady Wildcats face the hosts in the opening round, Tuesday Oct. 22.
