FORT WAYNE â€” Whitkoâ€™s softball team picked up its first victory of 2013 by crushing Fort Wayne Southside Tuesday.
The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Archers, 15-5. As a team, Whitko had 15 hits and 20 stolen bases.
Hannah Himes was 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three runs scored. Jenny Brown was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, three RBIâ€™s and four stolen bases. Amanda Shepherd and Sydney Lancaster were both 2-for-3 with a double each.
Emily Weigold went the distance on the mound, picking up the win for the Lady Wildcats.
Whitko (1-2) will play again tonight against West Noble.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubuscoâ€™s softball team opened its 2013 season by falling to conference-rival Fairfield Tuesday.
The Eagles lost by a final score of 7-0.
Kristen Krill allowed 0 earned runs while pitching in relief. Courtney Luttman was the losing pitcher for â€˜Busco.
Gabby Jones led the Lady Eagles at the plate, getting the teamâ€™s lone hit as Fairfield tossed a one-hitter.
Churubusco is now 0-1 and next plays Saturday at home against conference foe Eastside.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubuscoâ€™s girls tennis team lost its opening match of the year Monday against Fort Wayne Northrop.
The Lady Eagles fell in the home contest by a final of 4-1.
Juniors Nikki Esslinger and Liz Brooks-Smyser won their number two doubles match for â€˜Busco, defeating Northropâ€™s Sandara Sabic and Amber Plumly 7-6 (8-6) and 6-1.
For the JV, the Lady Eagles grabbed three of four matches. Anna Bulmahn beat Alex Neyman in number two singles and â€˜Busco captured both doublesâ€™ matches.
The Lady Eagles will next play Thursday at home against Adams Central.View more articles in:
