COLUMBIA CITY — A Pierceton man accused of two felonies had his pre-trial conference continued until March 18.
Jeremiah Smith, 26, was in Whitley County Circuit Court Monday. He is accused of burglary, a Class C felony, and theft, a Class D felony.
According to case reports, Smith was alleged to have broken into the Larwill Deli.
He is accused of having stolen $1,252.76 of merchandise, 12 cartons of cigarettes.
The back door, door locks and hinges were also broken during the crime, which was estimated to be $650 in damages. This incident occurred on Sept. 9, 2012.
Smith was arrested on Oct. 9, 2012. Law enforcement began to suspect him when a tip came in that Smith’s girlfriend was trying to sell cigarettes online.
When investigators arrived at the house, they photographed shoes belonging to Smith, and the shoes resembled those of the person seen on survileance who broke into the store.
Smith’s trial is pending in part because he is facing charges in other counties. Billie Mireles was back in court facing charges of violation of probation.
Mireles had her case continued until March 18.
She is accused of having been dealing a Schedule IV substance within 1,000 feet of a park, a Class B felony. This would be a violation of her probation, which was set to expire in February of 2014.
Mireles originally served time in prison for forgery and theft. She wrote checks that did not belong to her in the fall of 2007.
According to case reports, one of the victims said that Mireles “normally ripped off the men she dated.”
