THE POST & MAIL: Takes home three state awards from HSPA banquet
COLUMBIA CITY — The Post & Mail received three awards, including two first-place awards at the Hoosier State Press Associations’s annual recognition ceremony Saturday.Nicole Ott received a first-place award for Best News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure for her article in the Dec. 1, 2011 issue entitled “Water rescue: Five people in two vehicles hit high water, get stranded.”Five people were stuck on top of their cars for more than an hour after they drifted off due to high water on the roadway. In addition to her first-place win, Ott also garnered a second-place award for Best Spot News Photo for her coverage of a semi-trailer crash on U.S. 30, May 1.Former Managing Editor Phil Smith received a first-place nod for Best Short Feature Story entitled, “He was a one-man army,” which appeared in the Nov. 11, 2011 issue of The Post & Mail.For a more in depth look at this story, see the Dec. 3 issue of The Post and Mail.
