Possible TIF changes raise concerns

COLUMBIA CITY — A board member of Whitley County Consolidated Schools questioned possible adjustments to Columbia City’s Tax Increment Funding (TIF) area at a recent meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Jill Western requested WCCS Attorney John Whiteleather be present at a future meeting to discuss the legal authority the school board has on the downtown TIF area, which is expected to be adjusted by the city’s Redevelopment Commission (RDC).

After some examination by a consulting firm, the RDC discovered that several areas needed to be removed from the TIF area, and is also examining the possibility of putting additional property into the TIF area, which hasn’t been adjusted for 20 years.
