Officer enters not guilty plea for alleged theft

COLUMBIA CITY — The Fort Wayne man and State Excise officer accused of staging the break-in of an Indiana State Excise Police evidence room in Columbia City had a preliminary plea of not guilty entered in Whitley County Superior Court Monday.
Aaron M. Bishop, 34, charged with theft and official misconduct, appeared in court for his preliminary hearing.
Judge Michael Rush entered the not guilty plea when Bishop said he wished to retain a lawyer to defend him on the charges.
A pre-trial conference was scheduled by Rush for 10:50 a.m. Dec. 28 at the Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office.

arrested for criminal mischief, battery
Police arrested a Fort Wayne man in Churubusco Saturday and charged him with interfering with a 911 call, domestic battery and criminal mischief.
David Merle Chester, 55, was arrested by police when he allegedly got into an argument with a woman and later broke down the back door to her house and assaulted her. He is also accused of forcibly trying to prevent her from calling police.
Chester appeared in Whitley County Superior Court Monday for an initial hearing.

’Busco man to face
February trial for rape
A Churubusco man accused of rape will face a jury trial in February.
Kent Frenger, 40, was arrested Oct. 20, accused of holding a woman at knifepoint before raping her and forcing her to perform a sex act on him.
Frenger appeared with counsel on Monday in Whitley County Circuit Court for his initial hearing.
Circuit Court Judge James Heuer set the trial to begin Feb. 8 at 9 a.m.
Frenger is not only charged with rape, but also criminal deviate conduct and criminal confinement.
