NU a good fit for Hazen

COLUMBIA CITY — When making her college selection, Columbia City volleyball player Gabrielle Hazen looked at the big picture.

While she had the option to attend many schools in the Big Ten Conference, including Ohio State where teammate Kalisha Goree will be attending, Hazen decided to go with a school with strong academics.

“Northwestern is amazing academically,” Hazen said. “When narrowing down schools, I wanted to come out with a great education as well as a great athletic career.

“At Northwestern I’ll be getting both.”

At 6-foot-2, Hazen’s height and long arms have attributed to her success in volleyball at Columbia City.

She has received All-Northeast Hoosier Conference honors, and led the Lady Eagles’ frontline at middle blocker for the last three years.

Hazen has been playing volleyball since 8th grade and is looking forward to a new opportunity after high school.
