SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team, which went into Monday night’s game with a 15-5 record, dropped a Three Rivers Conference match-up by a difficult, 9-0 score.

The Wildcats hosted Northfield, a team that won the state finals last year and returned several of its starters from last season.

The Norsemen jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and scored three more runs in the top of the third frame.

Whitko managed to hold Northfield’s offense off home plate for much of the rest of the game, excluding another run in the sixth inning to make the 9-0 score.

Though the ’Cats managed three hits, including two in the sixth inning, they weren’t able to get a base runner home, suffering the shutout.

Alex Stoddard pitched the first three innings, giving up eight runs, five earned, and 10 hits. Stoddard struck out one.

The Wildcats are back in TRC action Wednesday, hosting Wabash, before taking on Whitley County rival Columbia City in South Whitley Friday.
