Norman Graves, 86

Norman W. Graves, 86, of Columbia City, died at 5:12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was admitted Friday.
He was born Aug. 29, 1924 in Laud, a son of William Henry and Susan Rhoda (Smith) Graves. His formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. He was educated in the Jefferson Center High School and the Police Academy in Bloomington.
On June 4, 1946 he was united in marriage to Jeanice C. Sharpe. They made their home in Columbia City, Syracuse and later Roanoke for 20 years before moving to their home south of Columbia City in 1986. Mrs. Graves died Sept. 12, 2010.
He drove truck for Bob Welker in Roanoke for five years, owned and operated Norm Graves Builders for 20 years and operated various restaurants over the years, Norm’s Place from 1950-1958, Crossroads Inn from 1982-1988, Country Post Inn in Huntington from 1994-1997, The Back Door from 1999-2000 and lastly Norm’s Country Post from 2004-2005.
His memberships included I.O.O.F. in Dunfee, Eagles Lodge in Columbia City and Huntington, and the Moose Lodge in Huntington.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Pamela S. Worrel of Roanoke; a son, William Joe (Jill) Graves of Delphos, Ohio; six grandchildren; a step-grandson; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosella Wilson of Columbia City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary E. Graves, and two brothers, DeLoss Graves and Loren Graves.
There will be no public visitation or service. Burial will take place at South Park Annex Cemetery.
