NHC NO MORE: Officials announce 2015 will be the last year for long-time conference
COLUMBIA CITY — A decision was made Thursday that the 24-year-old Northeast Hoosier Conference will be disbanded in 2015.
After continued disparity in the enrollment gap between schools in the conference, NHC President Mark Misch, of Norwell, announced in a press release Thursday that all eight member schools agreed to withdraw from the NHC, effective July 1, 2015.
“Therefore, principals and athletic directors will be focusing on new future conference membership affiliations,” Misch said.
The NHC has been made up of Bellmont, Carroll, Columbia City, DeKalb, East Noble, Homestead, Norwell and New Haven, since it was formed in 1989.
Though the talk of disbanding began due to Homestead’s and Carroll’s much larger size and many assumed the two school’s would be “kicked out” of the conference, all eight member schools could end up in a different conference — or stay independent.
Carroll and Homestead will be in the new Class 6A in football next year, while the other six schools remain in Class 4A or smaller.
