NEW JOBS: City approves loan for Blue M. Medical

July 1, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Another step was taken for a potential new company hoping to locate in Columbia City and bring five to eight jobs to the community.

Blue M. Medical is the name of a company that Bill Smith, of Whitley County, will be starting. It will be a medical device manufacturing company.

Last Tuesday at the Columbia City Board of Works and Safety meeting, the board approved applying for a loan with the USDA, with the funds going toward Smith’s company.

The Rural Economic Development Loan from the USDA will be $115,000, which will help fund the $143,750 project for Blue M. Medical.

The proposal came to the Board of Works because the USDA loan will go through the city’s electric department, thus making it a utility decision.
