CHURUBUSCO — Two vacant board seats were filled at Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees meeting Monday.

Dean Geiger, of Churubusco, was selected to be the District 1 member on the school’s board. Luke Gross, of Churubusco, was chosen to fill the District 2 position.

Geiger is an engineer at Eaton in Auburn. He graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1989. He holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. Geiger has three children currently in the SGCS school system.

Geiger has previously been involved with the school board. He, along with Gross, were part of the Strategic Planning Committee in 2010 and 2011. From this experience, both Geiger and Gross are familiar with the school’s current building project.

Luke Gross is the vice president of manufacturing, engineering and technology at Mullinix Packages, Inc. He grew up in the Churubusco area and attended Carroll High School. He obtained a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and technology from Purdue University. Gross has two children that graduated from Churubusco High School and two children still attending SGCS.

In addition to his previous participation in SGCS’ Strategic Planning Committee, Gross has helped with interviewing and hiring some SGCS athletic coaches.

“We felt Dean and Luke were the best candidates because they have served with the board in other capacities before and they have the skills that complete our team at this time,” said Board Secretary Tanya Young.
