Ned E. Beekman, 84, of Columbia City, died at 3:53 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Parkview Oaks in Columbia City.
Ned was born on June 7, 1928, in Lancaster Township, Huntington County, and is the son of Ernest and Avis (McDaniels) Beekman.
He graduated in 1946, from Clear Creek High School and attended one year at Purdue University.
Ned married Shirley Callahan on Aug.10, 1975, in Huntington.
She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 1995.
Ned was a lifetime farmer in Clear Creek. Along with farming, he worked for Erie Railroad as a fireman and engineer before retiring after 27 and a half years of service.
He was the former owner of Beekman General Store, in Bippus, for more than 10 years. Ned was a member of the Erie Railroad Engineer Union, the Eagle Lodge, in Huntington, the American Legion Post #85, in Huntington and the V.F.W. Post 5582, in Columbia City.
He is survived by two sons, Terry W. (Leann Dial) Beekman, of Harrietta, Mich. and Steven N. Beekman, of Vermillion, Ohio; three daughters, Gail (Michael) Baum, of Warsaw, Rhonda (Greg) Kenline, of Albion and Kay (Terry) Pfister, of Huntington; two stepsons, Gary Mauger, of Ocala, Fla. and Mike (Melanie) Mauger, of Ossian, two stepdaughters, Cheryl (Chuck) Howe, of Bippus and Teresa (Eric) Warpup, of Huntington; one brother, Jay Beekman, of Huntington; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
His parents, wife and a sister, Madonna Baade, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
