NATURAL RESOURCE BOARD: Whitley County volunteer sought

March 1, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Board of Commissioners is seeking a volunteer interested in the conservation of natural resources to serve as the Whitley County representative on the Wood-Land-Lakes council.

“We’ve tried to get someone interested in that,” said Commissioner Tom Rethlake. “If there’s anyone in the community, we’d really like them to let us know.”

Wood-Land-Lakes Resource Conservation and Development (WLLRCD) is comprised of a group of volunteers working together for responsible stewardship of the area’s natural resources. The groups vision is: “Awareness, education and wise use will conserve and improve the future quality of our air, water, land, woods, plants and wildlife.“

WLLRCD welcomes volunteers interested in forestry, land resource issues, water and water quality, rural community development, environment and renewable energy, along with natural resources in general.

The position is strictly on a voluntary basis; neither compensation or travel reimbursement is provided. Interested parties will attend council meetings in LaGrange and report back to the commissioners on the meetings. For more information on volunteering as a Whitley County representative, contact Jen McGuire at 248-3100.
