COLUMBIA CITY — In the 19th century, pioneers traveled from the east, and many of them settled in Colorado.

Annie Morsches, of Columbia City, will have her own pioneering experience in the Rocky Mountain State this fall.

Morsches, who graduated this year from Culver Military Academies, will be playing women’s lacrosse at the University of Colorado.

It will be the first year the Buffaloes have had women’s lacrosse.

However, being new to the sport of lacrosse is one hurdle Morsches has already surpassed. She did not take up the sport until her freshman year of high school.

“One of my best friends wanted me to play with her,” Morsches said. “I tried it, and I fell in love.”

Love for boys lacrosse was already present at Culver Academies. The sport’s popularity at the school was another reason Morsches gave it a try.

While admitting she joined the sport late, Morsches has made up for lost time. She spent much of last summer playing lacrosse.
