COLUMBIA CITY — Various floats, groups and organizations will travel down Main Street as part of the American Legion Parade Saturday at 5 p.m.
An Old Settlers Day tradition, the parade is a favorite for festival goers at any age. Spearheading this year’s parade as grand marshal is Dean Ramsey and his wife, Norma.
“We are glad to do it,” Dean said. “I never anticipated being honored this way. I am thankful that the parade has continued to be a festival favorite.”
Dean was a commander for the legion and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 in Korea. When he came home, he met Norma and the couple was married.
“I came home, saw her and we got married,” Dean said.
“The rest is history. We’ve had a good life together. I love her. There’s still a spark even after 57 years.”
The couple has spent the majority of their lives in Whitley County. They have two sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
