COLUMBIA CITY — Not every freshman class has a smooth transition into the sports realm from middle school — but this season, Columbia City’s cross country runners do.Jason Matteson, who has coached cross country for Indian Springs Middle School for the last three years, is one of two new assistant coaches at Columbia City High School this season.“He really helped coach these guys as eighth graders,” Columbia City Head Cross Country Coach Bob Fahl said. “We brought him up here as a follow through. He’ll be a big asset to us.”Though Matteson will be spending much of his time with the high school group, he’s still going to be a part of the ISMS program.“I’m going to try to free myself up one day a week to go to the middle school,” Matteson said. “I want there to be that connection from ISMS to the high school.”Matteson is looking forward to the start of the season. To read the rest of this story, see the Aug. 23 issue of The Post and Mail.
