Mark your calendar for these Whitley County events and activities:

Patriots will host
state legislators
COLUMBIA CITY – Whitley County Patriots will host State Sen. Jim Banks and State Rep. Kathy Heuer at their next meeting, open to the public, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 7 p.m. at The Church of the Nazarene, 506 N. Main St.
The discussion will center on give-and-take about the upcoming legislative session. Also, Brendon Boudreau will attend to discuss Right to Work.
Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items for local charitable food pantries.

Bloodmobile in Columbia City Thursday, Jan. 5 at Columbia City United Methodist Church
COLUMBIA CITY – The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 N. Forest Parkway, lower level, on Thursday, Jan. 5.
The donor hours are from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.. Donors may call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to to schedule your donation appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.
“When you donate between Dec. 1 and Jan. 31--you can choose to be entered into a region-wide drawing for a $1,000 Visa gift card,” said Nancy Davis-Souers, CCUMC bloodmobile coordinator. “Come and give the gift of life – the gift that everyone wants but money can’t buy. Give blood; give life.! One hour of your time could save up to three lives.

Whitley County Republican Breakfasts
to begin Jan. 7; will host top speakers
COLUMBIA CITY – Whitley County Republicans will host monthly breakfasts beginning Saturday, Jan. 7. Guest speaker will be Greg Zoeller, Indiana Attorney General.
Breakfasts will be at CC Deli, Van Buren Street, downtown Columbia City. Meeting time is 8:30 and breakfasts are $7.

Peabody Public Library hosting
varied January events, activities

COLUMBIA CITY –The Peabody Public Library has announced its January schedule of activities and events for adults, children and young adults.
The library is located on East Van Buren Street in Columbia City. Hours are Monday and Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

Basic Sewing Skills Tues-day, January 3 2-4 PM. Learn to sew with Geneva. Work on a kit provided by the instructor or bring your own project. No charge for the class if bring your own project. Cost of kits vary.
Yoga Basics Wednesday, January 4, 11, 18 & 25 6:30 PM and Thursday, January 5, 12, 19 & 26 9:30 AM. Yoga basics is a class based on the fundamentals of yoga, linking breath to movement. Your instructor is Jodi Coyle. Please bring a mat. Donations appreciated
Indiana Jones Marathon Saturday, January 7 9 AM – 5 PM. All four of the Indiana Jones movies. Lunch, popcorn & beverages will be served.
Commitment to Fitness Challenge Monday, January 9, 16, 23, 30 4:30 PM. Come take the Commitment to Fitness Challenge. Learn about fitness and tips to help you with your exercising.
Tatting Class Monday, January 9 & 23 5:30 PM. Learn to make lace with needle tatting technique. Provide you own needles and tatting string/cord.You will also need scissors. Instruction is free.

Quilting Class Thursday, January 12 & 26 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM. Join Geneva and work on that quilt you’ve been wanting to make. COST: $5 for patterns. Bring your own sewing supplies.
Dark City Movie Night Saturday, January 14 7 PM. Ray Milland has a “Lost Weekend” and wins the Academy Award for it. BYOB.
Old Fellows on Guitar – The In Continent Tour.Monday, January 16, 23 & 30 7:00 PM Back again by popular demand, Ray leads the over-40 set to stardom. This is a 10-week class for absolute beginners. Signup is required and limited to 15 spots.
Timely & Timeless Book Discussion Tuesday, January 17 Noon. This month’s reading is “The Paris Wife” by Paul McLain.
Free Educational Re-sources Online Saturday, January 21 2 PM. Learn about some of the great resources available for free on the Web, including educational games and puzzles, free typing tutors, office software, and more.
Magic Cards Saturday, January 21 3-7 PM. Play this popular game with like-minded individuals. Bring your own decks. All levels welcome; ages 12 and up
Painting Class Thursday, January 26 10 AM & 5:30 PM. Chloe’s back. Painting classes resume January 2012.Project TBA. You will have a finished painting in less than two hours. COST: $10
Friends Movie Night Saturday, January 28 7 PM. Irving Berlin’s “Annie Get Your Gun” comes to life on the big screen. Starring Betty Hutton and Howard Keel.

Preschool Story Time meets on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM and Thursdays at 4:15 PM. There will not be any Story Times the first week in January. In January, our story time themes are “Very Hungry Caterpillar” on January 10 and 12, “Dance” on January 17 and 19, “Birthday Fun” on January 24 and 26 and “Waves in the Bath” on January 31. Join us for stories, songs, finger plays and a craft.
Toddler Time meets in the Children’s Department at 10:00 AM on Tuesdays, January 10, 17, 24 and 31. This easy-going group is designed for parents and their children under age three. We will not have Toddler Time January 3.
Play Date meets in the Children’s Department at 10:00 AM on Wednesdays, January 11, 18 and 25. Parents and kids are invited to spend the morning meeting with friends in a welcoming atmosphere complete with toys the kids will enjoy.
Cre8tive Preschool Art Class Monday, January 9 at 10:00 AM. Limit of 20 per class. Sign-up in the Children’s Department or on-line.
Cre8tive Kids Art – The kids will be creating a “Light Bulb Penguin.” Bring a friend. The class is Tuesday, January 10, for grades K-5th at 4:00 PM. Limit of 30 per class. Sign-up in the Children’s Department or on-line.
Art Time with Joni Walker – Thursdays, January 12 and 26 at 4:15 PM. Learn drawing techniques with local author and artist Joni Walker. Open to 5 year olds and up. Sign-up requested. There is a $2 fee payable the day of the class.
Craft Saturday – Saturday, January 14 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The children are invited to come to the Children’s department to make a snowflake craft.
Tickles, Wiggles and Bounces – Monday, January 16, at 10:00 AM. Join Becky Walter as she leads you and your toddler in songs, stories and music. Class is open to toddlers 18 months to 3 years old and their parent or caregiver. Sign-up requested.
Cooking 101 – Foods from Books - Monday, January 16 at 4:00 PM. This year we will be cooking from stories in Children’s literature. This month’s book is “The Little Red Hen.” Class is open for kids in grades 3 -12. Sign-up requested.
LEGO Club – Tuesday, January 17 and 31 at 4:00 PM. Who doesn’t like to build with LEGOs? Our LEGO Club will challenge you to work with a partner to build an assigned creation using the Library’s LEGO collection. Creations will be judged and prizes will be awarded. The LEGO Club is open for kids in grades K-5. Sign-up is requested.
BeginINbooks– Wednes-day, January 18 at 4:00 PM. This monthly program teaches parents how to work with their preschool children with pre-reading skills. This program is for parent and their children ages 3-6. Registration is currently full but interested parents can ask at the Children’s desk for more information.
Home Schooling at Your Library – Monday, January 30 at 10:00 AM. Join other Columbia City home schooling families for a short lesson and sharing of home schooling ideas.

Youth Advisory Board Meeting – Monday, January 2 at 5 PM. Plan events for the new Young Adults area, make flyers, make friends, and create programs. Your opinions matter! Winter Craft Day – Wednesday, January 4 from 10 AM until 4 PM. Come get out of the cold and make some warm winter crafts. Anytime between 10 AM and 4 PM. All ages welcome. No signup required. Free crafts.
Cre8tive Teens Art Class – Tuesday, January 10 at 5 PM. The teens will be making a hand knitted scarf. Bring a friend. For 6th-12th grades. Sign-up requested.
Teens Talk News – Join us for the taping of Teens Talk News for February events. Thursday, January 12 at 5:30 PM in the YA area.
Craft Saturday – Saturday, January 14 anytime between 10 AM and 4 PM. Come to the Young Adult’s department to make a foam snowflake.

Teen Game Night – Thursday, January 19 at 6 PM in the Teen Services area. Come learn a new game – “Paper Toss.” Watch out for the fans! Bring your friends!
Teen Movie Night – Thursday, January 26 at 6 PM. This month’s movie is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.” Popcorn and refreshments will be served.
Commitment to Fitness – Since the holidays are over, it is time to put down the holiday cookies and get back into shape. This program is designed for 6th grade thru adult. This is a 4 -week program that you do at your own pace. Each Monday in January at 4:30 p.m. here at the library we will be having an incentive program to get your week started, these sessions take approximately 30 minutes. Each meeting you will return your charts to qualify for prizes. The weeks are themed:
•Week 1 January, 9 @ 4:30 pm – Food Discussion/Program start up.
•Week 2 January, 16 @ 4:30 pm – Dance and Movement.
•Week 3 January, 23 @ 4:30 pm – Easy workouts from home.
•Week 4 January, 30 @ 4:30 pm – Jump Rope/Program wrap up.
