FORT WAYNE — Churubusco was defeated at the hands of two-time defending IHSAA Class 2A State Champion Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Friday.
The Knights took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to score in the first three minutes of the game.

It was the first of Smith’s three touchdowns in the contest.
With 7:24 left in the second quarter, a one-yard TD run by Smith made it a 14-0 ball game.
Three minutes before intermission, Smith scored again, this time from four yards out to put the Knights up 21-0 heading to the locker room.
After a Churubusco turnover-on-downs, Jermar-Quay Brooks scored on a one-yard touchdown run with a little over six minutes remaining in the third period.
Jaquale Cooper scored the Knights’ final points early in the fourth quarter, giving Luers a 34-0 lead.
'Busco's Josh LeFever was the lone contributor to the scoreboard for the Eagles, with a two-yard touchdown run with 1:15 left in the game.
Churubusco had never been 11-0 in school history. They will have to wait until next year to try and duplicate the this season’s success.
Despite the loss, the team still finishes 11-1, the best record the Eagles have ever put in the record books.
“I’ve had as much fun, if not more fun coaching this team this year (as opposed to last season),” Churubusco Head Coach Lee Etzler said.
“I cannot say how proud we are of those kids. There weren’t a lot of people who expected us to do much this year.”
