Luella M. Esterline, 97, of Jefferson Township, died at 1:38 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since June 2011.
She was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Berne, a daughter of Peter John and Della Barbara (Kuehm) Miller. Her family resided on Liberty Mills Road and she attended Aboite Center School.
On March 2, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ralph E. â€śBusâ€ť Esterline. They made their home on a farm near Laud for five years, later moving to Allen County for two years, returning to Jefferson Township in 1942. In 1944, they made their home on a farm on County Line Road. Mr. Esterline died Dec. 8, 2002.
She worked at Lincoln Life in Fort Wayne from 1966 until 1977. Her church membership was with Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Marsha Ann (Jerry) Washburn of Churubusco and Marilyn J. (Perry) Ely of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Pauline Neddo of Indianapolis.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Myrna J. Ennis; a grandson; five sisters, Almeda Tomkinson, Florence Miller, Kathryn Margreat Pequignot, Hilda Roller and Irene Huey and a brother, Walter Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, 7067 S. CR 500 East, Columbia City, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will be in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
