Long road back: Reserve officer nearly killed a year ago cherishes life

COLUMBIA CITY — Sheriff reserve officer Adam Schrader sped toward a possible suicide, his last thoughts, gone now forever, were likely of the sense of urgency to get to the scene and prevent a tragedy.
His next conscious thought came weeks later with both his skull and his shoulder crushed.
