Local SROs begin a week late

January 14, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s school resource officers (SRO) were expected to officially take their stations in the schools last week.

With most of Whitley County’s school districts closed due to Winter Storm Ion, the official start date was put on hold.

Smith-Green Community Sch-ools, Whitley County Consolidated Schools and Whitko Community Schools all received state grants to help fund school safety equipment and school resource officers.

That money went into effect Jan. 1, and SROs were expected to take their posts after students returned from Christmas Break, Jan. 6.

Due to the winter storm, WCCS and SGCS were closed the entire week.
