LIFESAVERS: Officers partner to rescue families from burning duplex

Columbia City Police Officer Jon Stoffel looks on as crews work to extinguish a massive fire at a two-story duplex last week. Stoffel and partner Jeffrey Chapman rescued two families from the building before it was completely overtaken by flames.

COLUMBIA CITY — Shooting drills, defensive tactics training and settling disputes didn’t prepare two Columbia City Police third-shift partners for their unique public service last week. CCPD Officers Jeffrey Chapman and Jon Stoffel performed a rescue of a different kind — evacuating two sleeping families from a burning duplex at 2:45 a.m.
