Lakeland girls tennis drops Churubusco, 4-1

LA GRANGE — Churubusco’s girls tennis team fell on the road to NECC foe Lakeland.

The Lady Lakers beat the Lady Eagles, 4-1 in varsity action and 4-1 in junior varsity action as well.

Picking up the win for the Lady Eagles at the varsity level was Kayleen Mitchell at No. 3 singles, defeating Amanda Miller 6-2, 7-5.

Losing in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, were Churubusco’s Cheyenne Conner and Audrey Gierscher, who both lost in straight sets to Carlee Richardson and Audrey Stephens.

The doubles duo of Madi Cook and Camille Cseri fell in No. 1 doubles action for the Lady Eagles, losing to Nikki Chavez and Cori Vaughn of Lakeland in straight sets. ‘Busco’s other doubles pair, Nikki Esslinger and Maggie Kitt, lost in a three-set match to Lakeland’s Becca Wooster and Keslie Leggett.

Earning the junior varsity win for the Lady Eagles was Kayla Mascho at No. 3 singles. Aaliyah Hennsinger and Anna Bulmahn both dropped JV singles matchs.

In JV doubles play, ‘Busco’s duo of Kaley Scott and Liz Brooks-Smyser lost at No. 1 doubles and Brittney Shambaugh and Olivia Knight fell at No. 2 doubles.
