CHURUBUSCO — On a senior night punctuated by raindrops and emotional tributes to five senior ball players, the Churubusco Lady Eagle softball team weathered a rocky start and dug themselves out of a 3-0 hole, going on to post a 12-4 Northeast Corner Conference win over visiting Westview on Thursday night.

The Lady Warriors came out swinging in the top of the first inning, putting up two runs on a walk, an RBI single by shortstop Amber Roth and a sacrifice fly by right fielder Kayla Yoder. A snap throw by Eagle catcher Chandler Blake to third baseman Savannah Labenz caught Westview’s Hannah Witham off third base to end the Westview at bat and hold the Warrior lead to 2-0.

“We kind of expected to be down early,” said Eagle Head Coach Wayne Gibson.” They (Westview) have a tendency to start fast. They come out really aggressively at the plate.”
