CHURUBUSCO â€” On a senior night punctuated by raindrops and emotional tributes to five senior ball players, the Churubusco Lady Eagle softball team weathered a rocky start and dug themselves out of a 3-0 hole, going on to post a 12-4 Northeast Corner Conference win over visiting Westview on Thursday night.
The Lady Warriors came out swinging in the top of the first inning, putting up two runs on a walk, an RBI single by shortstop Amber Roth and a sacrifice fly by right fielder Kayla Yoder. A snap throw by Eagle catcher Chandler Blake to third baseman Savannah Labenz caught Westviewâ€™s Hannah Witham off third base to end the Westview at bat and hold the Warrior lead to 2-0.
â€śWe kind of expected to be down early,â€ť said Eagle Head Coach Wayne Gibson.â€ť They (Westview) have a tendency to start fast. They come out really aggressively at the plate.â€ť
