COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team ran ITS record to 2-0 with a straight-set win over a solid Angola Lady Hornet team in Columbia City’s home opener. The Lady Eagles downed the Hornets 25-18, 25-17, 26-24.

“In our first match, Kalisha (Goree) didn’t play,” said Lady Eagle Head Coach Trish Hinen, “And we’re still looking at setters and back row players and trying to get a feel for where we need to be.”

That feeling out process showed a couple of times during each game as the Lady Eagles were forced to come from behind in each contest.

In the first game, the Lady Eagles took a 4-1 lead on two errors by the Hornets and kills from Goree and Gabrielle Hazen.

The Hornets went on a run to knot the score at 5 and take an 11-7 lead before the Lady Eagles began a run of their own.

Fueled by a block by Goree and several Hornet hitting errors, the Lady Eagles knotted the score at 13 on a combined block by Hazen and Becca Tourney. Another block by Hazen put the Eagles into the lead.

After tie scores at 14 and 15, the Lady Eagles took control. A kill by Tourney and another by Alaina Rhoades helped push the Columbia City lead to 18-16. Three consecutive Angola errors helped the Lady Eagles to a 25-18 win in game one.
