John Meyers, 55

John E. Meyers, 55, of Whitley County, died at 11:07 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Parkview Oaks where he had been a resident since May.
He was born May 1, 1957, in Fort Wayne, a son of Edward T. and Alice F. (Maguire) Meyers.
His formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Northrop High School and received his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in Lafayette.
On Oct. 13, 1979, he was united in marriage to Jan A. Biggs. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1982 when they moved to Rockford, Ill. In 1986, they moved to Thorncreek Township before moving to their home in Columbia Township in 2002.
A licensed professional engineer, he was employed at International Harvester from 1979-81, Warner Electric from 1981-85 and Zimmer Inc. in Warsaw from 1985 to 2012.
His memberships include St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and he served as a former Boy Scout Leader.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jan; three children, Natalie (Trent) Barker of Richmond, Mary (Mike) Porter of Warsaw and Nicholas (Tara) Meyers of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Kyra and Keena Barker and Ian and Zoe Meyers; his mother, Alice Meyers of Fort Wayne and two sisters, Susan Duncan of Fort Wayne and Sandra Waters of New Haven.
His father preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 South Line St., Columbia City with visitation after 10 a.m. Friday at the church. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. The visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to St. Paul of the Cross, Boy Scouts or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
