John Bucher, 69

John C. Bucher, 69, of Columbia City died at 7:08 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where he had been a resident for the past week and a half.
He was born June 22, 1943, in Rochester, a son of Daniel M. and Barbara J. (Ferverda) Bucher.
His formative years were spent in Silver Lake. He graduated from Silver Lake High School.
On Sept. 2, 1962, he was united in marriage to Karen S. Heckaman. They made there home at Diamond Lake and later Roann before moving to Whitley County where they have resided for the past 44 years.
John spent his work career with the telephone company now known as Centurylink. He was a service and repair technician with 40 years of service. He retired in 2006.
His memberships included Columbia City United Methodist Church and the Gideon’s. He enjoyed his semi-annual fishing trips with his wife and good friends.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years, Karen; two daughters, Monica (Todd) Bouck of Woodsboro, Tx. and Ann (Scott) Hill of Columbia City; a son, Daniel (Anita) Bucher of South Whitley; six grandchildren, Andy Bouck, Tommie Ann Green, Toni Bouck, Cody Bucher, Brett Hill and Joe Hill; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Jacki) Bucher of North Manchester and Jerry (Janice) Bucher of Michigan; two sisters, Judy (Kent) French of Silver Lake and Roberta (Jim) Estes and a stepmother, Betty Scott of Akron.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 Forest Parkway, Columbia City. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
