James S. Staples, 59, of Columbia City, died at 11:03 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born March 18, 1955, in Chicago, Ill, a son of James L. and Ida Mae (Mitchell) Staples. In 1973 his family moved to Columbia City from Chicago. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School.
He was employed at Blue Bell and later as a salesman for Gallo and Baker Lift.
Survivors include his caregivers, Chris and Debbie Birchum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Wayne Staples.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at Nolt Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the final expense account payable to Smith & Sons Funeral Homes.
