COLUMBIA CITY — It was a close finish at the Indian Springs Middle School 8th grade Lady Stars conference tournament opener — beating Lincoln by only one point, 34-33.

It wasn’t a close finish in Whitko’s tournament opener against Wawasee, as the Lady Wildcats won 69-14.

In the ISMS game, the Lady Stars started out strong, leading 14-8 in the first quarter. As the game progressed, both teams became more aggressive, especially toward the end of the fourth quarter, where the two teams teetered back and forth with the lead.

With only 13 seconds left in the game, Mason Van Houten hit a free throw to take a one-point lead and win the game.

The county-rival game will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at ISMS.
