INTERNET POLICY: WCCS to implement revisions for online safety
COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees is preparing to implement internet safety policies to better protect its students.According to WCCS Superintendent Dr. Pat O’Connor, the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was amended last fall and now requires school corporations to provide age appropriate curriculum concerning proper online behavior. “This includes interacting with others on social networking sites, in chat rooms and cyberbullying awareness,” explained Dr. O’Connor. Additional federal regulations were added that requires school corporations to include a policy for monitoring online activities.“In other words, there is an expectation that the staff member would be up and walking around, monitoring the sites students are using,” said O’Connor.For a more in depth look at this story, see the Nov. 21 issue of The Post and Mail.
