COLUMBIA CITY â€” The Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees is preparing to implement internet safety policies to better protect its students.
According to WCCS Superintendent Dr. Pat Oâ€™Connor, the Childrenâ€™s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was amended last fall and now requires school corporations to provide age appropriate curriculum concerning proper online behavior.
â€śThis includes interacting with others on social networking sites, in chat rooms and cyberbullying awareness,â€ť explained Dr. Oâ€™Connor.
Additional federal regulations were added that requires school corporations to include a policy for monitoring online activities.
â€śIn other words, there is an expectation that the staff member would be up and walking around, monitoring the sites students are using,â€ť said Oâ€™Connor.
