Injuries, inexperience befall ’Busco

CHURUBUSCO — Having two of three senior players miss time due to injuries would make for a rough season for just about any team.

That’s what happened to Churubusco’s girls basketball team during its 2012-13 season, as the Lady Eagles finished the year 3-18.

Savannah Labenz had returned for her senior season to start at point guard for the Lady Eagles. Unfortunately, her high school finale was cut short by a torn labrum suffered shortly before Christmas that caused her to miss the remainder of the season.

Chandler Blake, fellow senior and two-year starter, was 50 percent most of the year, according to head coach Jamie Perlich — due to two bad knees.

That left Jacey Keener as the only Lady Eagle senior that was healthy all season.

‘Busco also had to deal with a sheer lack of players.
