FORT WAYNE — Indian Springs Middle School’s 8th-grade Lady Eagle basketball team was handed its first conference loss Thursday at Woodside Middle School.
Though the Lady Eagles held the lead throughout most of the game, Woodside went on a 9-4 run in the final four minutes to win, 36-30.
The Lady Warriors switched to a zone defense, limiting Indian Springs’ offensive options.
Indian Springs head coach Trish Sittler said the game wasn’t lost due to lack of deisre.
The teams were knotted at nine points by the end of the first quarter, and Indian Springs had a 17-15 advantage at the half. Chelsea Pettigrew led the team with six points in the opening half.
Indian Springs had a 26-25 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Woodside went on its run to win 36-30.
The loss is only the Lady Eagles’ second of the season, also falling to Whitko on Monday.
Indian Springs is hosting an all-day tournament Saturday. The Lady Eagles open the day against Manchester at 1 p.m., then play the winner of East Noble and Tippecanoe Valley at 2 p.m.
