COLUMBIA CITY — After a three-game win streak, Columbia City’s girls basketball team fell to Homestead Saturday night, 65-37.

The Lady Spartans only have two losses on the season, while Columbia City has been working to find its niche this year.

While the Lady Eagles suffered their 13th loss of the season, Shearer said the team has been improving.

Homestead opened the game by taking a 16-5 lead. Columbia City’s lone points came from Emily Whiteleather (3) and Macie Hinen (2).

Aubrey Wright scored five points in the second, along with two from Hinen and a free throw from Hannah Schnorr — but Homestead tacked on another 19 points, making the score 35-13 at the half.

Wright led the Lady Eagles with eight points on the game.

Columbia City had a 10-point third period, with scoring from five different players, making the score 50-25 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Eagles gained momentum in the final quarter, as Megan Deutsch and Brittney Renniger scored four points apiece, helping Columbia CIty to 14 points in the last eight minutes, making the final score 65-37.

The Lady Barons are 9-6, with wins over three Northeast Hoosier Conference teams — New Haven, Bellmont and Carroll — while losing to Norwell and East Noble.
