HERE TO HELP: Free clinic comes to Col. City

June 18, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — After moving from its original location in Wolf Lake at Luckey Hospital to the Wolf Lake United Methodist Church, the Free Health Clinic is set to relocate again — to Columbia City.

The clinic will open June 27 at its new location, 524 Branch Ct., Columbia City, across from Ace Hardware, with operating hours from 1 to 7 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

The clinic was started in 2007 by Dr. Tom Hayhurst, Kay Luce, Reverend Wray McCalester and Pat Rauh, L.P.N. — along with many volunteers — in an effort to provide medical services to the uninsured population of local counties.

Now, Dr. Terry Frederick has joined with Dr. Hayhurst to offer free health services.

“Our goal is to reach the uninsured and those who have don’t have Medicare or Medicaid,” Frederick said. “There are those who fall into that in-between category who need ongoing medical treatment for things such as diabetes and hyperthyroidism.”
