Helen Heinley, 94
Helen J. Heinley, 94, of rural Columbia City died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at The Oaks, Columbia City where she had been a resident since August 2010.
She was born Oct. 27, 1916 in Thorncreek Township, a daughter of the late Jesse and Florence (Miller) Jackson. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township. She graduated from Washington Center High School and then International Business College, Fort Wayne.
Following her graduation, she took a job with a stock brokerage firm in Fort Wayne.
On June 25, 1938 was she united in marriage to William Elmer Heinley. They made their home for the past 72 years on a farm south of Columbia City. In addition to a homemaker, she was employed by the former Frankâ€™s Greenhouse in sales and floral design.
She was a member of Eberhard Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, Evening Bells, Walnut Corner Club, Beaver Euchre Club and the Whitley County Art Guild. Among her many talents were award winning cross stitch and oil paintings.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 72 years, William Elmer Heinley; a daughter, Sandra (Roger) Holler of Muncie; two grandchildren, Julie (Vic) Steiner and Greg (Kim) Holler and three great grandchildren, Jennifer Steiner, Zach Holler and Mallory Holler.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Robbins.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Alice Smith officiating. Burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
