Harold Kenneth May, Sr., 94, of Bennington, Oklahoma, and formally of rural Churubusco, passed away at 2:33 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Mr. May was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Greenville, S.C., a son of Elzie R.and Nettie (Hames) May. He spent his formative years in Greenville, S.C., and graduated from Clemson Universityâ€™s high school program.
After graduation he served during World War II in the U.S. Army.
He was married to Maxine Winningham and moved to Whitley County from Greenville, S.C. in 1953.
He was employed at May Brothers Construction, and retired in 1983 after 30 years.
Mr. May was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW.
His spouse preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 1991.
The surviving relatives include two daughters, Sandra Lee (Dickie) Cates of Bennington, Okla. and Evelyn Belcher of Fort Wayne; a son, William (Cheryl) May of Columbia City; two sisters, Dorothy Barnett and Ellalee Halcombe, both of Greenville, S.C.; and two brothers, James (Loraine) May and John May, both of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Kenneth â€śKennyâ€ť May, Jr.; and by two brothers, Grover May and Elzie May, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Saturday at 2 p.m., with Pastor Rick Van Horn officiating.
At the familyâ€™s request there will be no public viewing.
