Harold E. â€śBussâ€ť Alexander, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Parkview Oaks where he was admitted on Nov. 27, 2013.
He was born April 10, 1931, in Whitley County, a son of Harry C. and Beulah B. (Juillerat) Alexander. His formative years were spent in Washington Township. He completed his education at Washington Center High School.
In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Africa and Greenland during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with a Medal of Valor.
On July 29, 1953, he was united in marriage to Pearline Johnson. They made their first home in Fort Worth, Texas. Following his discharge, they returned to Columbia Township. Mrs. Alexander died Oct. 25, 1993.
He worked for C.W. Schrader, Ralph Juillerat and More Farm Store before establishing Alexanderâ€™s Garage in 1971.
Surviving relatives include four children, Kathy L. (John) Orr, Donna J. (Walter) Maley, Jill A. (John) Abbott and David A. Alexander, all of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Robert Alexander of Columbia City, Richard Alexander of Pierceton, Dwight Alexander and Ronald Alexander, both of Columbia City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Rex Alexander; a brother, Kenneth Alexander; and a sister, Betty Marrs.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be presented on Friday at the funeral home by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
