Goree commits to Ohio State

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City stand-out volleyball player Kalisha Goree has made her college decision — Ohio State University.

Goree verbally committed to the Big Ten school recently, and said her experience at Columbia City has made a large impact on her successful career.

With some of her family living in Fort Wayne, Goree had the opportunity to attend a Fort Wayne school, but she chose Columbia City.

“Columbia City has done well with sending female athletes to Big Ten universities in the past — such as Leah Eber, Ashley Rhoades and Deb Sauers,” Goree said. “That’s part of the reason why I decided to come to Columbia City.”

Goree had a strong performance for the Lady Eagles last season, tallying 230 kills, 361 digs and 36 aces.

“My mother is really excited and happy because Ohio State is only a few hours away and she will be able to come see me play,” Goree said. “My dad is also happy because he went to school in Columbus, so he is familiar with the area.”

Pursuing athletic careers is nothing new to Goree’s family, as she has five cousins who play sports professionally.
