FORT WAYNE — Nearly 20 Whitley County girls athletes are headed to the Northrop Regional track meet Tuesday.
Though all have different goals and aspirations for the rest of the season, one thing is certain — all are happy to stay in the mix for another week.
For Columbia City junior Samantha Roush, its a state finals bid she’s looking for. For Whitko senior Josie Sparks, it’s a school record.
The state finals are no stranger to Roush, who has had three trips in cross country, and two appearances in track — so far. Roush is seeded first in the 1,600-meter run after winning the event in the New Haven sectional.
She is also seeded 10th in the 800-meter run. Roush placed 10th in the state meet last year in the mile, and 10th her freshman year — one place away from a medal.
