George Bauer, 80

George Arthur Bauer, 80, of Columbia City, passed away at 12:36 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
Born on May 10, 1932, in South Bend, he was the son of John Lewis and Alice E. (Hall) Bauer.
He attended Thorncreek School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
A lifetime Whitley County resident, he worked for Schenkel’s Dairy, Huntington, in the maintenance and sanitation departments from 1974 until his retirement July 27, 1995. From 1949-74 he worked at Columbia Dairy in Columbia City.
Surviving relatives include his two sons, William L. (Mary Jo) Bauer of Saint Paul, Minn. and Brady R. (Dee) Bauer of Ness City, Kan.; brother, John L. (Glenda) Bauer of Cromwell; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marge Wright; companion, Bertha Elizabeth Wilson and son, Dennis A. Bauer.
Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City.
A memorial service will be held Monday immediately following calling at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. The burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Bauer’s memory to the American Heart Association or to American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
