Gary Lee Cofer, 76, passed away Sunday morning, May 8, 2011, at his home in Bent Tree Harbor Development near Warsaw, Missouri. He was born in Buffalo, Mo. Nov. 10, 1934, a son of George and Eileen Cofer.
He was a 1953 graduate of Platte City High School, Platte City, Mo.
He worked for Missouri Public Service for six years and owned a service station in Platte City for two years, where he belonged to the volunteer fire dept. and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both of Leavenworth, Kan. He was a mechanic at TWA, KCIA for 28 years, where he retired at age 58.
He married Sharon Diane in 1976. They moved to Warsaw, Mo., in November of 1995, where he served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Bent Tree Harbor Assoc. Board of Trustees.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou (Larry) Thomas of Pierceton and Teresa Jo McClain, of Leavenworth, Kan.; one son, Michael (Andrea) Cofer, of Burlington, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Teresa Schwartz of Warsaw, Mo.; and a stepson, Howard Kentner of Lees Summit, Mo. He also leaves three grandsons, Shawn Thomas of Hamburg, Iowa, Brett King of Columbia City and PFC. Trevor King stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas; four granddaughters, Heather Wilson of Rochester, Katie McClain of Leavenworth, Kan., Mikeala Cofer and Samantha Cofer, both of Burlington, Kan.; five step-granddaughters, Rachel Kentner, Amanda (Austin) Alleman, Sarah Schwartz, Julia Schwartz of Shawnee, Kan., and Holly Kentner of Leeâ€™s Summit, Mo., a step-grandson, Jacob Kentner, of Lees Summit, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren, Thresa, Ronnie Jr., Brandon, Maggie, Melanie and Bobby Wilson of Rochester, and Dyllan, Dominik and Donovan Thomas, of Columbia City; two step-great-grandchildren Alivia Bell and Augustus Alleman, of Shawnee, Kan.; and a half-sister, Pat Cofer, of Terrance, Calif.
Gary is preceded by his wife of 34 years, Sharon Cofer.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Mo. with burial at the Dudenville Cemetery in Dudenville, Mo. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Reser Funeral Home 101 W. Main Street, Warsaw, MO 65355.
