GARBAGE PICKUP: Local ties not enough for trash contract
CHURUBUSCO — Bids for trash contracts were discussed in a special meeting of the Churubusco Town Council last night.Four bids were submitted to the council and were opened for the initial review at the last council meeting.Among the four bidders was current contract holder National Serv-All and Whitley Environmental, current recycling contractor for the county.Only Steve Smith, of Whitley Environmental, was present for the special meeting. Each proposal included a three-year and a five-year option. However, Whitley Environmental offered a third choice.“We gave the town the option to buy the carts at the end of the contract,” Smith said. “We would store and maintain the carts while under contract, even if you choose to buy them.”At the last council meeting, President Frank Kessler read off the pricing for the first year from each bidder. Both National Serv-All and Whitley Environmental had numbers within pennies of each other. To read the rest of this story, see the May 24 issue of The Post and Mail. Don't have a subscription?
