FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Columbia City faces another hot opponent

October 17, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY— After three straight weeks of playing a ranked football team, Columbia City gets a reprieve.

But not much of one. The Norwell Knights are currently unranked in Class 4A, but are red-hot, having won their last three games in a row.

Those three wins came against East Noble, DeKalb and Homestead.

While Columbia City lost to East Noble and Homestead this year, the Eagles also beat Bellmont, who defeated Norwell.

This match-up between the 3-5 Eagles and 3-5 Knights will be even more interesting, though, as it is a sectional preview.

One week after playing each other this Friday in Columbia City, the two teams will square off in Ossian for a Class 4A sectional quarterfinal match-up.

The Eagles have owned the rivalry in recent seasons. The last Knight victory came in 2009, when Norwell went 8-1 in the regular season and grabbed a share of the Northeast Hoosier Conference title.

Last year’s result was decidedly in favor of Columbia City, to the tune of 26-6.

But Norwell rebounded in the postseason.
